Good shoes. Literally, a proper horseshoe (not the sort used for games or decoration) has a smooth side pressed against the hoof and then the bottom has a rough texture from the smith’s hammer blows that give really good traction on smooth surfaces. I’d imagine she also had the foresight to make the ice rough which would help as well.
