I’ve read the novel up to chapter 1335, and honestly, it’s not bad, but it’s a little frustrating, and god, how I hate his fiancée! The only reason I haven’t dropped this novel is because most of the rest of it is good.
By chapters 400–500, the protagonist already has total contempt for his uncle’s family, which consists mainly of ignorant idiots with Qi levels that don’t go much beyond 30–40 points.
He breaks off the engagement very early on, and shortly after, he develops an increasing distaste for his “fiancée”—a distaste she fully deserves.
The protagonist’s fiancée is kidnapped along with her ex-fiancé; the bandits order her ex-fiancé to rape her to save his own life, and he accepts without hesitation, tearing her clothes off in front of a gang of bandits.
Guess what? The protagonist saves her, and yet he’s the villain for defending himself against her ex-fiancé, who wanted to kill him.
Her ex-fiancé uses her to try to poison the protagonist, fails, ends up getting killed, and guess what? There she is, defending the man who tried to rape her to save his own life and calling him the love of her life.
Her great-grandfather literally puts her entire family in mortal danger, holding them captive and using them as bait to lure the protagonist with the threat that if the protagonist doesn’t come to save them within three days, he’ll kill everyone.
At this point, the protagonist wouldn’t even have shown up, since he already despised everyone in that family, but a friend of his uncle’s and former colleague of his late father insisted until he agreed.
When the protagonist arrives and the plan to kill him goes awry, her great-grandfather uses her, her siblings, and her parents as a human shield to protect himself from the protagonist, holding a knife to her mother’s throat and barely refraining from killing her.
The protagonist saves them, and a few dozen chapters later, they’re joining the main branch of the Feng family, the branch that expelled them and was trying to kill them.
Guess what? The protagonist’s fiancée calls him a villain for killing her great-grandfather to save her life and that of her family!
For the love of God, sometimes I just want to cry.
It’s only starting around chapters 1100–1200 that it starts to become bearable—not good, but bearable.
Besides that, the novel has a lot of stuff that’s irrelevant to the story. Like, I’ve even skipped 100 chapters at once and felt like I hadn’t missed a thing.
