I swear right here and now, if they do what I bet they plan to do, which is the bad guy gets away and the rest of the novel is trying to get him, I will drop.
The only way this goes well as an arc, is if he kills this guy and takes over the group, otherwise its just a second tier crap plot that you cant trust because the author is literally trying to string you along to keep the status que as long as possible. Which is one of the worst things an author can do to the readers, and one of the laziest ways to continue your plot.
Stupid, how am I supposed to believe one idiot walks into an open yard and kills 10 of thugs with guns, only with two knives. There is no supernatural powers involved either. I can suspend my disbelief only so far.
