This is kinda fuck up. Imagine ed doesn’t really have feelings for Janica, and he only see her as comrade. I mean it would be really bad for her if she found out that the real reason why ed kiss her, is to get the corpse of wind spirit. One, Ed has already kissed Lortel twice who is younger than Janica and was not bothered by their mental age gap. Two, Marilda is not forcing she just pushing. She already knows that Ed has deep feelings towards Janica so its not a one sided crush but he currently doesn’t want to pursue a romantic relationship with anyone because he wants to focus on his self improvement, his survival and the events of the main plot. But if you have been paying attention Ed clearly like Janica too but knows if he engages in a romantic relationship right now it would only complicate his situation especially since there are two other strong love interest. What I think Marilda is trying to do is not force a relationship but give Janica some reassurance and to push Ed to man up a little.

One, I can understand why he doesn’t. To him, he is an adult and she is a child. So it would feel odd to him, even if he is in a much you get body.
Two, forcing someone to kiss another is wrong. It isn’t true feelings. And can hurt the other one receiving it.
