I suddenly feel hate for that girl who spouts “spare them,” and the guy she told to trust ended up nearly killing the MC if he were any weaker. This reeks not of him volunteering for a sacred mission, but being brainwashed and conditioned to do what they want. He keeps questioning himself and relies on their words instead of his own reasoning. Each time he tries, he seems to struggle. Then that lost love is never in a solid flashback, like that others. Oooh, maybe she IS the conditioning! Maybe she never existed and they created that memory within him, breeding the ultimate weapon. Something just seems sus about all this. It would make more sense for the “angel” and “devil” on his shoulder too.
