Chinese obsession with the idea of “big shots” and idol worship seems like a cultural thing. I never see this in manga and manhwa, but manhua always have those “you are my god” kinda dialogues. Almost feels like china socially programs it into people to understand and respect social heirarchy to make sure people act like good puppies
This is both one of the most insightful comments I’ve ever read, and the most vaguely anti-Chinese. You may be right though, with Confucianism being a large part of their culture, and ergo, defines their social hierarchy.
China is also one of the countries where advancement is rapidly occurring. So becoming a bigshot should be aspirational. Unlike many places where social mobility is now dead… It’s also true that Chinese prioritize forming connections / networks – because those help you be able to get and do more.
