If you read the First Chapter you See That the rando from hard mode says that everyting should have ended After the last Return quest. The Return quests and the Waves Are different things so i assume the final Return quest made people think the invasion was over and the Waves Are something new. It also took much more time for people to clear the Labyrinth because the average strength was lower
Just finished marathoning this series in 3 days, and now that I think about it, the story doesn’t feel very consistent.
In the first chapter, the MC said that anyone who enters the labyrinth can only return after clearing it. This is supported by the scene where the hard-mode player comes out of the gate talking about how Earth shouldn’t have been destroyed, which implies he never returned from the labyrinth to see Earth’s condition.
It’s also mentioned that the wave that wiped out humanity was the fourth wave. However, in his past life, the MC had already cleared the third wave in the thirty something floors, while the FMC, someone the MC personally taught, had only reached around the 14th floor. This doesn’t really make sense, especially since in his past life the FMC had already cleared the solo labyrinth before the 4th wave even happen.
Even if we assume the third wave was caused by the Old Gods’ intervention and only count two “normal” waves, the timeline still feels off. The story after regression feels much slower compared to how things moved before.
– I do agree that the Autor failed to foresee where he was going to. That being said, it still to early to talk about that, we don’t know how things will work out.
– Right now they are in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, it is not that crazy to think that there wasn’t any visits to Earth.
– We also don’t know which floor the other modes are, right? If the easy mode guys can defeat E monsters, that are probably higher, so maybe they had finished the Maze a lot earlier in the previous life. (And most died for monster roaming in Earth, or just semi-waves.)
– The 4th wave probably only happens when the last person finished the Maze. (I don’t remember the exactly phase from the first chapter, but i think it was something in the line that that guy was the last one to return).
– Now, talking about the shock that people got when they return to Earth. It could be a simple reason: They thought that at that point everything would already ended. They knew that the FMC was strong and that she finished the Maze before them, so it is not that crazy to think that everything would be okay.
– We dont really know how the timings for the Waves happened in the past life. It was exactly like this? Are we even sure that when the FMC defeated the 3rt wave she was in the 14th floor? I dont remember this information.
-Maybe the Old Gods are accelerating as the MC is too strong and they will create more waves (and not only making them harder). In the last time they could just slowly kill the humans because there was no danger, they knew that they would be able to kill all of them even after they finished the Maze, but now they aren’t sure anymore.
– Again, this is probably the Autor failing to foresee everything, personally it is not something that brothers me.
– (the – in the start it just to make it easier to differentiate the paragraphs as the message system doesn’t alloy empty lines)
– Sorry, I think I mistyped the sentence in the second paragraph. It should have been “However, in this life, the MC…” instead of “However, in his past life, the MC…”.
– I agree that we don’t really know much about the other mode players, since they don’t have a significant role or contribution to the story. However, we do have a clear reference point when it comes to the FMC. In her previous life, the FMC had already cleared the labyrinth before the 4th wave happened. That was a life where she had to rely entirely on herself, without anyone teaching her, and she even had to use underhanded methods to clear the labyrinth.
After the regression, the MC teaches her and gives her constant help to finish the labyrinth. I think it’s safe to assume that the FMC in the second life should progress much faster than in her previous life. But instead, after the third wave (or the second, depending on how we interpret the Old Gods’ intervention), the FMC has only reached around the 14th floor. It doesn’t take a genius to see that the progression of the other characters feels off.
I can’t really argue if the 4th wave only happens when the last person finishes the labyrinth, but to me that would feel like very lazy writing.
– I don’t really like using the Old Gods as an excuse to cover up inconsistencies in the story, but I do agree that it makes sense. That said, it also feels like the only option the author has left.
– None of this changes the fact that the manhwa is still interesting. It’s just a bit disappointing that the author doesn’t seem to take the script seriously or stick to it. Or maybe there isn’t a solid script at all, and they’re just drawing whatever comes to mind.
