Backstory was waste of time Mc didn’t learn anything from it or improvement to his character you could have improved personality of mc through flash back example mc is in flash back and mc learn to open up to people again not everyone hates him he can be less of harsh character through flash back of other characters seeing other people life and improve his own is common sense
Im going say this backstory was waste of time if you want do backstory do it correctly let me tell you how when you use backstory you can tell reader and MC about world basically world building second backstory has to change mc somewhat basically develop his character mc is always harsh you could make mc kind not to kind but enough because mc seen backstory and and his character Cheng and develop in future you can do call back to back Story push character’s forward that backstory did nothing and it was waste of time because main character didn’t learn or improve from it
