Theres a saying from a big character in another novel I like, and he likes to say the most important thing for any martial artist/swordsman is personality.
It makes sense if you think about it, it doesnt matter how talented, how strong, or how smart you are, if you dont have the balls to go out into the world and do what you need to do than your just going to be worthless.
This guy sees that our MC found and targeted a dangerous criminal while being weaker than him and still succeeded, and had the foresight to not just steal the goods outright. It shows tremendous potential.
Kinda like in real life you want someone whos more of a go getter.
