He was just told: you don’t have talent for the spear. He still wields the spear. I hate when a weapon is forced on the main character for the only reason of: not being a sword. In that case, author should have made him decently talented with the spear, or another weapon. I mean… what is the point now?

He is a mage primarily. Spear is the easiest weapon to use if u don’t know shit.
To make use of other weapons like sword, bow or mace. He would need atleast intermediate level of mastery considering his level.
Learning spear is time efficient for him
