The problem with this Manhua is probably lack of funds/people. It seems like they have really limited production capacity so many transitionary scenes are cut making the story hard to follow and chapters really short.
So the og antagonist was a part of this sect (who is also obsessed with immortality based on the words of the ritual used to create the vase child) and stole that technique, probably others as well, and other disciples to pursue immortality on his own.
