I wont say it is gay but ya properly it is a bad choice considering a hero character.
Look, you are right, it does have better range than a sword (the true common overused weapon) but that was only a small part of its strength, if we only focus on that there are a dozen better polearms. Spears were so widely used because they took little training, were easy to produce, and worked well in group combat. So lets put that into a character like this, they dont care about cost, getting relics that could fund countries easy, they fight solo so any benefit from group combat is low to nil, he gains skill easily and is trained by the best so the low skill entry is meaningless.
So honestly, why wouldn’t you choose a weapon that has better performance same reach more versitility where the only drawbacks are the skill/training needed and the cost to produce?
