If everyone started at the started at the same time, no one would assume he started out late. As far as I'm aware they havent seen what he looks like either. They've just heard of his exploits and when meeting him face to face he has a hood on that makes him unrecognizable. The weird thing for me was that he wanted to hide that he was f2p when most likely only his friends would know that. Like he could have at least probed if she was a member. For god sake she was even refered as bunny girl….
