And I mean the fact that knew that woman would die, but only helped her because of the horse. Then, he allowed the other man to leave, knowing the would bring people to kill him. It was dumb as hell, and completely out of character after he just slaughtered an entire gang of bandits.
Stating it like that is a little dishonest I think, we have been shown plenty of time that MC is way more softhearted than everyone else in this world, so the horse giving him the little figurative and literally push is a nice way of introducing conflict like this.
Also, if you also noticed he very rarely attack’s first, I believe he only attacked first in the bar, and that was all non lethal, secondly this guy never pulled out his sword and decided instead to talk and walk away, MC actually mentioned the fact he liked their ability to determine the outcome of an engagement and not have to pull out a sword.
Lastly MC did say that guy was a monster which give MC reason to not want to fight him.
So unless someone changes in the later chapters this is actually really good so far!
