Slaves can fight, or they can die. In this case, they can fight or get sent to the mines, which is a death sentence all the same. This is just gladiator fighting without weapons, and less death, though from what we can understand, killing is not a huge deal.

What I'm wondering is what they're fed. Most of those guys seem to be well built, so they must be fed well. If I was in that situation, I'd stuff my face like there is no tomorrow, eating as much as I can everyday. Still, 1 week is nowhere near enough time to make any real gain. You can lose a heap of fat, but gaining muscle is far harder.

I wanted to like this, and I did enjoy the concept, but I loathe inconsistency, and chapter 14 was the breaking point for me. In this chapter, the small and thin protagonist, who looks to be 130lbs at most, punches a heavily muscled bandit who's probably twice (In excess of 200lbs for sure) his size, in the gut with his bare hands, and the bandit actually gets hurt. I'll add that the bandit was also wearing what looked like a full gambeson, accented with leather and metal plates. If there was qi or mana involved, then okay, fine, that would be reasonable, but as far as I can tell, the world in this story has no mystical energy.
Too ridiculous for me. It feels like the author got an inspiration for a decent story, but didn't bother to put any real research or thought into creating his world, and ended up with a mess of irrationality.

With these two things, I could get not only my protein and vit B, but also my vit C, vit D, and calcium requirements for the day. The last three are all needed for strong bones. Vit C and vit D affect the absorption of calcium. I'd have the strongest fists of any slave, gahahahaha!

The author hasn't bothered to research societies that had gladiator fighting. A slave is the property of the owner. If another slave were to "damage" them, then that slave would be severely punished by heavy beating, branding, mutilation, or execution. It has nothing to do with bullying, and everything to do with the "bully" slave showing blatant contempt for their master by damaging the master's property. It doesn't matter what society it is. Any human society with a slave system will evolve with these values and rules, therefore it makes sense that this human society in this other world would be no different. The only time a slave may hit another slave is if it's either permitted, or ordered by a higher authority.
In short, the idea of these numbskulls bullying Kalli without consequence is nonsense.

I don't know what the rules will be in this fight, but aiming for the Adam's apple, nose, eyes, maybe the ears, as well as the groin are Kalli's only real hope. That is, if we want to keep some semblance of logical consistency. Without qi, mana, or some other mystical energy, that's the only way, now that he has arms like wet noodles. He needs to go for the most sensitive spots.
