my guess is the demon lord had a mental breakdown splitting his spirit in two. The demons were shards of his mind from that split. His rationality separated itself from the grief and suffering for survival. That is why the demon god always looks to be in pieces, because some of it's pieces are missing. I would say it is likely that it was something like a group of adventurers who contained a hero, and the hero lost his love in a brutal way. He went berserk and his teammates were forced to stop him. They were unable to stop him in time and when they did they were only able to seal the largest evil piece of his soul. Where the rational part and the rest of the group were forced to leave a legacy behind as atonement for not being able to stop the hero. That or maybe instead of just having a mental break he used forbidden magic like the magic the MC used at the beginning of the story and was unsuccessful in stopping the disaster he went back in time to stop. That or he went mad then traveled back in time. I mean he also could have instead failed to cast the spell and fell in despair.

That's a bit of a stretch. They are perfectly legible, unlike some of the other trash posted to Manhuaus. Such a simple mistake as confusing Duke and Count doesn't detract all that much from the overall quality of the translation. Hell, this is actually a really common mistake among translators, even official TL's like Webtoon.
